The following was written by a mom who is part of the Liam's Fund committee and the mother of Joshua:

Summer is getting shorter, whether that makes you anxious or reluctant, school starts Monday. Where did you celebrate the last weekend of summer vacation; backyard, beach theme park? We went to Rady's Children's Hospital, where my son, who endured thirty emergency surgeries, turned ten and returned for a reunion of sorts. The Brain Bash, a happy day for hundreds of families who's children share medical history hosted by the Team Liam.

Neurosurgeons, Drs. Levy and Meltzer, attended sans their white coats-the only white were leis-"Aloha" Greetings to distinguish patients as young as a few months up to twenty-something. I met two children my son's age. The girl's second surgery is days away, while the boy's surgery was six years ago, he doesn't remember, of course, his parents won't forget.

You could almost hear the ocean; the cafeteria patio was transformed into a colorful tropical oasis. Thanks to Liam's special aunt and uncle we were entertained with ukulele music and hula dancers. The staff, friends and every other relative of the honorary team members volunteered their time and talents for four hours of fun treats, crafts and games and prizes. Josh was handed a keepsake the character and book, "Guess How Much I Love You," his response was precious, "I Love You." It made my day and our nights. It's a bedtime story I'll never tire of hearing.

"Mahalo" Gratitude was generously given to the staff of doctors, and parents and very many volunteers who made the first Brain Bash a smash. Everyone in attendance not only made the best of the last weekend of summer-but the best for children and families who are in need of brain surgery on any given day of the week. Every day is cause for celebration and every birthday- a milestone!
