We are announcing that we are cancelling the annual Pasta Party this year. Originally scheduled March 24 at the hospital.

We will still have our booth, join us for cake and a walk or a run.

We will give everyone the option of getting a refund or donating the money you paid to attend the party directly to the fund in support of Liam’s Fund for Neurosurgery at Rady Children’s Hospital.

We make this announcement and know that there are many questions about what has happened. I will do my best to explain. We started as a group of parents and families wanting the best medical care for our kids and others.. Turns out we succeeded! For 19 years, in good times and challenging times we ALL worked hard on this annual event. Be very proud. As Liam’s parents we watched our group change over the years. Many families found an ability to go live life. They were no longer living in the health crisis that brought us together. We often wondered if Liam would ever get to do it too. To go live life and his dreams to the fullest. His health and severe disabilities always held him back. Our tears were always bitter sweet. Happy to see the families and kids we grew to love go on with life, but sadly still watching and not seeing it happen for Liam. Liam’s life wasn’t going to include the traditional college attendance, girlfriend and job. They say you get over that with time. Don’t believe them.

This past year has been different. It has been the most amazing year of health for Liam. Can you remember his last hospital stay? I had to look it up. A three day PICU stay last July. Prior to that it had been many months of good health. That is a huge deal for Liam. He is healthier than he has ever been in his entire life. WOW! Something else changed this year too. With his good health came more opportunity. Boy what adventures we have had this year! Liam continues to travel. He has gone fly fishing and hiking in the Rocky Mountains. He did some indoor ski diving. Oh and he is going skiing this week too. For 18 years Liam walked the Carlsbad 5000. In 2017 he got to “run” as an assisted athlete in the Carlsbad 5000 with a borrowed blade from Cormac and Cindy. He flew with the help of his running buddy Ty Godwin. In July he was given the gift of freedom-his own running blade from Maggie Seymore. Maggie was inspired to run across the USA doing good deeds as she ran for her project Run Free Run.. She is crazy and we love her. By the way, if you don’t know Liam has the most amazing running buddy Ty Godwin. With his love and guidance Liam is blazing all kinds of new adrenaline adventures. They even got a sponsor, LoveThePain.com. How appropriate is that, for a kid who has had over 150 brain surgeries? Wait till you see Ty and Liam rocking some badass triathlon suits! So it is with pleasure that we cancel this years pasta party because Liam is training for his triathlon. Liam is finally living his dream like the other kids before him. And in typical Liam fashion he is doing it his way.

It means we are no longer watching others, and it means we are wondering what’s next to his story.

Know we are still Team Liam at Carlsbad 5000, iconic as always. Know that next year we will be celebrating 20years of Team Liam and we want YOU there! We want to invite everyone who has ever done Team Liam to come “do it one more time” and celebrate our friendships and our 20 years of success! Please put it on your calendar!

With love and gratitude,
Liam, Fabian and Joanie
